PERSONAL HISTORY – BEFORE THE INCIDENT
Fred was the son of Brad Chiles and Judy Reeves, though they abandoned him in a laundry mat not long after he was born. Fred was adopted by Fred Jones Sr. and Peggy Jones. Fred Sr. was the mayor of Arkham, Massachusetts. Not long after Fred was adopted, Peggy was found in the swimming pool, drowned. It was deemed an accident, though foul play was suspected by many.
Fred struggled in his private boys school, suffering from undiagnosed dyslexia and ADHD. In 1976, at the age of 13, Fred was sent to a therapist named Clarice Boddicker, who facilitated the diagnosis of his dyslexia and ADHD, and who arranged for him to receive the proper medication and therapies needed to tackle those issues. Within six months, Fred had turned his schooling around and by the age of 15, he was a star student and quite popular.
In high school, Fred was the quarterback for the Arkham High Sharks, and began dating Daphne Blake. In 1981, the year they graduated, Daphne became pregnant with Fred’s baby. She wanted an abortion and Fred wanted her to keep it. The decision became moot when Daphne suffered a miscarriage at ten weeks.
While Fred was supportive, their relationship did not survive the miscarriage and Fred and Daphne agreed to be friends, but not romantic. In 1982, Fred and Daphne went their separate ways, to different schools, Fred to Amhurst and Daphne to Smith.
While studying law at Amhurst, Fred met Norville “Shaggy” Jones, who was a producer at the college radio station. They became fast friends, despite their many differences. Fred liked Shaggy’s sense of humor and the eccentric way his mind worked. Plus, Shaggy was Fred’s weed connection.
Five years later, following graduation, Fred was contacted by Daphne and offered a chance to join her private investigation group, Mysteries Incorporated, along with Daphne’s friend Velma Dinkley. Fred agreed, provided Shaggy could join as well. Daphne agreed, and Shaggy came on board as the driver, bringing his van as the group’s primary mode of transportation.
In 1989, Velma, Daphne, Fred, and Shaggy agreed to sell their likenesses to Hana Barbara, who made a children’s cartoon based on their adventures. While the cartoon was and exaggerated and dumbed down version of what they did, it also amplified their fame, gaining them bigger and more lucrative cases. However, Velma and Daphne agreed that their integrity was the most important characteristic of Mysteries Inc. and maintained that they only take jobs that they genuinely believed in and could offer real assistance.
Over the next five years, Mysteries Inc. traveled the country solving mysteries and gaining notoriety. Mysteries Inc. was active from 1987 to 1992, when they encountered a case that ended in a horrific incident. While the details of the incident are not spoken of, it is known that all members of Mysteries Inc. were deeply traumatized and they went their separate ways.
PERSONAL HISTORY – AFTER THE INCIDENT
Following the notorious 1992 incident, Fred left Mysteries Inc. and returned to school, switching his major from constitutional law to criminal.
In 1996 Fred took and passed the bar and went to work as an intern at a successful law firm in Boston.
In 1997, Fred successfully defended the notorious serial killer Jackson “The Boston Boiler” O’Hara on an insanity plea. The Boiler spent four years in The Arkham Mental Health Center and was released.
In 1998, Fred hired a new secretary by the name of Jennifer Phillips. They began dating not long after and she became pregnant with their son Casey. They were married by the end of the year.
In 2000, Fred was offered partnership at the law firm he worked at, but declined and soon left to form his own law firm, Jones and Associates.
In 2006 Fred abruptly closed his firm and announced that he was running for D.A. in his former hometown of Arkham, Mass. The election was a tight race but Fred ultimately lost. Sitting on a large retirement fund, Fred opened a small private law practice in Arkham in 2007.
By 2010, Fred Jones Ltd. was the largest, most successful practice in Arkham.
